Just got back from the Blue Tomato Artshop for Esther Vincent’s opening exhibition for Things That Want to be Seen, and it was FANTASTIC! Truly a great show, totally proving it’s possible to go to art exhibits for more than just the free food. Granted, for about twenty minutes I was hovering over the free nachos, and I joked to Esther that I really, honestly, truly did in fact, come to immerse myself in her art and thank her for all the help she provided in regards to pointing me in the right artistic direction, financially speaking. The free wine, free nachos with free salsa, free ginger cookies and free humus were all just little side perks. Nice, free side perks. As far as Esther herself, I’ve only met the woman twice, but she’s so laid back and easy going you could talk about anything with her. Like a long lost friend you haven’t seen in a few years, you just connect in no time at all.
If you’re in town, you have NO excuse. Go to the upper gallery in the Blue Tomato and get yourself lost. Especially those of you in the Massage Therapy program at Sir Sanford Fleming. Really. I STRONGLY URGE you to take a moment from your day and head over to the gallery to really look. at. it. Seriously dudes. You have until November 30th.
Afterwards, I headed over to The Spill with Bryan to play a game of scrabble and drink some smuggled chai tea. (Yes, I snuck into a coffee bar with a thermos of my own tea… Hey, I designed them a logo.) The scrabble game itself was a total failure on my part. Not only did Bryan win SO handily that he set himself a new personal high score and blew my ass out of the water by over 200 points, but as it turns out the best word I was capable of laying down was “Five.” Ugh.
Speaking of The Spill, in exchange for the design of the aforementioned logo, I was offered a free month in their gallery hosting art from my upcoming graphic novel. It’s going to be a HUGE ass party. Cake, wine, food, live music, Q & A’s, meet n’ greets, slide shows, anything else I can think of. I’m going to do everything I can to make it the best night ever. Saturday, March 6th is the magic date. Here is a link to the facebook page for the event.
Currently I’ve got a few projects to keep me busy. The design gigs for the massage therapy clinic at Sanford Fleming and the videography place in Richmond Hill should bring home some bacon for the time being, and if my commissions dry up, I have a job interview for a winemaking assistant on Tuesday. Big plus. the wine, that is. But speaking of Logo Design, you should check out the page I recently made for accepting professional commissions, and keep me in mind if you ever need any dirty deeds done dirt cheap. Next stop, yellow pages.
